Alison Coleman
Lecturer in English
Alison Coleman is a writer, writing instructor, editor, and communications specialist who came to Yale in 2007. Currently she serves as a senior communications officer for several members of the university’s leadership team and as a lecturer in the English department, teaching sections of English 114 entitled “(Re)Defining Family” and “Unplugged.” She has led writing and editing workshops and presented on pedagogy and communications strategy for a range of campus audiences, including student groups and faculty and staff colleagues. She is the author or co-author of two books in progress: a literary biography set in the 19th-century Midwest and a scholarly textbook on the preservation of cultural heritage. She is a fellow and adviser in Ezra Stiles College and is the adviser and administrative director of Yale College Class Day. Prior to her arrival at Yale, she began her career as a journalist at The Miami Herald, reporting on local news, editing and designing copy throughout the newspaper, and contributing as a writer and editor to feature sections including “Tropical Life” and the Herald’s design magazine. She received her bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University and pursued doctoral study at the University of Miami, Florida.
